The Hervey Bay Cultural Trust is established to provide a tax effective way for you to contribute to the ongoing cultural life of Hervey Bay, both in your lifetime and beyond. The Trust aims to provide direct support for the establishment and ongoing management of:
Museums – Burrum District and Hervey Bay based Museums
Libraries - Pialba, Howard and Burrum Heads and services
Art Gallery – Hervey Bay Regional Gallery and the myriad of programes and the collection it supports for the community
The Trust accepts donations from groups and individuals as well as other Trusts, and distributes those monetary gifts to cultural facilities, programes and projects.
80% of the funds given away by the Trust are directed to key programes and projects that have been established but struggle to continue without significant subsidisation. The programes and projects rely heavily on the work of mostly volunteers advised by key professional staff. These projects and programes are identified and prioritised by the Trust Board which has a 10 year programe of funding needs that is then revised annually.
The other 20% of the funds given away, are by way of grants back to community groups that apply through the Trust’s grants system. (See Past Grants on this website).
The Trust was established by the Hervey Bay City Council in response to the growing needs of a rapidly expanding city, with many newcomers arriving in the Bay and a general need for expansion of existing services as well as facility development and protection of our heritage. The Trust is administered through a Company Limited by Guarantee, and that company called, the Hervey Bay Cultural Trust Co Ltd, is run by a Board of Directors.
